The Calgary Peace Bridge | January 23, 2013

[twitter]Truth be told, the “need” of a bridge where the Calgary Peace Bridge was built was not necessary. There are three other pedestrian bridges 275m west, 400m west, and 900m east from its location – so we didn’t really ‘need’ this $25M helix of red steel, but damn it looks good.

Calatrava‘s Peace Bridge spanning the Bow River in downtown Calgary is a gorgeous piece of architecture. Marred by cost overruns, and delays, the Peace Bridge celebrates its first anniversary spanning the river as another shining example of the modern elements of style and architecture that are dotting what can hardly be described as a “Cowtown.” From Wonderland, to the Bow Tower, and The Peace Bridge, Calgary’s skyline is worthy of admiration – regardless of the politics.
