Team Diabetes 2015 Race Calendar

[twitter]The Canadian Diabetes Association has pulled the wraps off their 2015 Team Diabetes Race Calendar and it’s spectacular.

This year will see racers head to Madrid, Edinburgh, Peru, Iceland, and Hawaii. Those events are pretty much loaded and the participants are deep into training and fundraising. The rest of the calendar, including the new events, is wide open.

I’m open about the fact that a sense of adventure combined with philanthropy attracted me to Team Diabetes. The chance to run in Reykjavik in 2003 was wonderful. I’m getting ready for my 6th event with Team Diabetes and looking forward to passing $40 000 in fundraising this year.

Here’s a look at the Team Diabetes international events looking for entrants, which will you do?

Athens Marathon, Greece, November 2014
Distances: Marathon, 10K
Registration Deadline: May 2014

Bermuda Marathon, January 2015
Distances: Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K

Prague Marathon, May 2015
Distances: Marathon and Marathon Relay
Registration Deadline: December 5, 2014

Reykjavik Marathon, August 2015
Distances: Marathon, half marathon, 10K
Registration Deadline: February 27, 2015

Kauai Marathon, Hawaii, August 2015
Distances: Marathon, Half Marathon
Registration Deadline: February 27, 2015

For all the events you’ll need to raise $6100. If you plan ahead, you can get it done. I do my fundraising by Blogging For Charity. Perhaps there’s a hobby you can harness to raise some money for Team Diabetes.

I’ve registered to run in Bermuda. They have an event called The Bermuda Triangle. Friday you run a mile, Saturday you do 10k, and Sunday you do a full or half marathon.  Fantastic!

I’d like to run the full marathon, that would make 5 for my career, a nice round number to end on. The problem is the timing for the event. Trying to get weekly 20+ km runs in Calgary in November/December isnt the easiest or most comfortable thing to do. We’ll see.

But I’m in, and my wife is too. We’ll celebrate her birthday on the beach with a little run in Bermuda. The Bermuda Triangle really fascinates me. The 8 yr old me is totally freaked out, I’ll concede. After signing up, I dug in to YouTube to find an In Search Of episode about The Bermuda Triangle. In the 70s/80s, these kind of mysteries were all the rage. Not so much anymore, but still …  … The Bermuda Triangle!

So .. which one will you do?  Join today!
